with lost voices
A project inspired by the “Sound Mirrors” at Denge Marsh in Kent. These huge concrete structures sit in spendid isolation mutely listening, but no-one listens to them. They are megalithic monuments to human ingenuity which were sadly never used due to the subsequent development of radar technology.
I was drawn by the idea that they have heard many voices and sounds which have somehow become part of their fabric. These memories and lost voices gradually fading away as the concrete gradually crumbles and is reclaimed by nature.
A special place.
I have also made some hand-gilded versions of these images – please click here to view these and to read the full project statement
